Fibre choice is where a custom textile either feels right or feels cheap. It sets the hand-feel, the print method, the care instructions and a large part of the price — so it's worth deciding deliberately rather than by default.
Cotton
Cotton is a natural fibre and the default for anything that touches the skin — towels, tea towels, cushions and apparel. It's soft, breathable and absorbent, and it takes digital and screen printing beautifully.
The trade-offs: it can shrink, it needs more care, and it's less hard-wearing than synthetics in rough use. It also can't be sublimated, so full-color photographic prints on cotton go through digital or screen instead.
Polyester
Polyester is a synthetic fibre prized for durability and quick drying. It resists wrinkles, holds up to hard use, and — crucially — accepts sublimation, which locks color into the fibre for a print that won't crack or peel.
The trade-offs: it's less absorbent than cotton and can feel less premium in some categories. It's the natural choice for gym towels, activewear and anything that needs to survive repeated washing.
Blends
A cotton-polyester blend balances the two: cotton's softness and absorbency with polyester's durability, wrinkle resistance and lower cost. It's a common pick for everyday products where you want the cotton feel without the full cotton price.
Which fibre for which product
| Product | Typical fibre | Why |
| Bath & beach towels | Cotton (terry or velour) | Absorbency and softness |
| Gym & sports towels | Polyester or microfibre | Quick-dry, light, durable |
| Tea towels & aprons | Cotton or cotton blend | Absorbent, print-friendly |
| Totes & pouches | Cotton canvas or blend | Structure, print and cost |
| Cushions & throws | Cotton, linen or blend | Hand-feel and drape |
Fibre and print go together
Your fibre and your print method aren't separate decisions. Sublimation needs polyester; cotton suits digital and screen. So we always pick them together, against your quantity and price point. The last piece is fabric weight, which sets the feel and the freight.
